lectio divina

Latin

divine reading

Lectio Divina is the prayerful reading and meditation of Sacred Scripture - the Holy Word of God.

“Receive the Word of God, not as the word of men, but as it truly is - the Holy, infallible, Word of God.”

- 1 Thessalonians 2:13

4 steps

  • Slowly read through a short passage of scripture, with a heart posture of reflection and receptivity.

Read through once. Twice. Three times.

Allow the Holy Spirit to highlight a word, phrase, or theme.

  • MEDITATION

Sit in prayerful silence with the Lord, meditating on the word, phrase or theme the Holy Spirit highlighted in step 1.

Don’t try to say anything to God. Use this time to simply sit and receive whatever He wants to speak to your spirit.

CONTEMPLATE the surpassing greatness of the gift that is God revealing Himself to you, in His Word, by the power of the Holy Spirit.

  • This is the time for more ‘dialogue’ with God.

Speak to Him about what has been illuminated in your spirit during the reading/meditation steps.

JOURNALLING is an integral part of this step.

Write down the revelations you’ve received, what you’re saying to God, what He is saying to you.

‘Be doers of The Word, not hearers only’ - James 1:22

Apply what you’ve received from The Lord to a practical area of your life.

Share what you’ve received with someone.
